Sick of sneakers? Try another kind of lace-up

Are you tired of sneakers yet? Hard to imagine feeling that way, but for some it is the end of the road for the runner/skirt combo, and they want something a little more feminine. This summer’s big footwear trend is the lace-up sandal.

Are you tired of sneakers yet? Hard to imagine feeling that way, but for some it is the end of the road for the runner/skirt combo, and they want something a little more feminine. This summer’s big footwear trend is the lace-up sandal. The dance-inspired look adds a little fun to summery looks, and here are a handful of lace-up shoes that will do just that.

For a little deep purple and a vintage feel, opt for the Vince Camuto Tarita suede caged sandals, $175 at Hudson’s Bay. The darling shoes are sure to add a little kick to your step in a colour that is both neutral and unique. Pair with ‘70s-inspired attire, and you’ve got a look that would make Stevie Nicks proud.

Comfort is key with these flat lace-up gladiator sandals in clean white, $213, from J.Crew. As flats, these numbers promise to merge function and fashion. These flats would look lovely with a loose-fitting calf-length A-line skirt, or a pair of ankle-grazing pants.

For a slightly heeled and narrow gladiator, try the Frye Brielle leather sandal in a soft neutral shade, $348 at Hudson’s Bay. The heels aren’t too high, but add a bit of femininity to the lacey look. The colour would work beautifully with black pants or skirt and a white summer blouse.

For a slinky lace style, opt for the Jeffrey Campbell Rodillo-Hi wedge sandal, $198 in soft nude at Nordstrom Pacific Centre and online at Shop.nordstrom.com. Another gorgeous and ultra-sexy shoe that will elevate not just your physical height, but the overall look as well.

Also from Nordstrom Pacific Centre, the Larissa sandal by Coach ($307). These may be my favourite of the bunch for their minimalist styling, clean leather and flattering heel. These would style nicely with skirts, denim, and cropped pants, finishing the look like a bow on a gift box.

Love these lace-up wedges from Gentle Souls by K. Cole – a line of footwear that literally lives up to its name. The strappy vampy numbers cost $275 at Gravity Pope offer an edgier alternative, with a style that would look amazing with a black jumpsuit that shows off a lot of leg and a little bit of lace-up wedges.
