It’s not often I’m disappointed when someone DOESN’T die, but after watching the season finale of This is Us on NBC last night, I, like thousands of other viewers had to ask, what the hell?
I mean, it’s not like I want Jack, played handsomely by Milo Ventimiglia, to die, but the writers made it very clear to us near the beginning of the season that his fate was sealed. I watched the last two episodes, Kleenex in hand, waiting for the inevitable, but nada. So, I knew his death had to come in the season finale, right? It had to, because surely the writers weren’t going to make us wait until season two, likely starting in September, to find out what happened to TV’s favourite dad.
But, that’s exactly what they did and I feel ripped off. In fact, I was so choked I was forced to watch a video detailing theories from viewers guessing how Jack will eventually die — I’m voting against suicide and leaning more towards car accident, but who knows.
I’m apparently not the only viewer upset over the season finale of This is Us and many fans took to Twitter to vent their frustrations, with the exception of Milo Ventimiglia (Jack) who wrote: Hey all. But @mashable questioned the episode: #ThisIsUs saved its best (worst?) twist for the season finale...
Mandy Moore, @TheMandyMoore, who plays wife to Jack, seemed to sense the fans frustrations and wrote: Sometimes we don't get all the answers we want. Patience. That's the kind of show we're making and I couldn't be prouder. #thisisus
