It seems like every style loving Vancouverite was present at the Deighton Cup last Saturday. The full weekend long event was coined the most sophisticated and playful event of the summer. The event spared no reservations when it came to the extravagant Veuve Champagne outdoor lounge equipped with a horse shaped topiary.
Hats of course have always been a celebrated tradition for the racetrack since 1875 when the first Kentucky Derby was held. From wide brimmed hats to fasteners, the array of each was stunning. Vancouverites chose local favorite designer Dominique Hank owner of Hive Mind Millinery for their unique fasteners.
The most celebrated dress that caught my eye immediately was a red lace overlay dress worn by Praise. The Bettie Page dress by Tatyana Khomyakova was perfect for the occasion and the rich color was a head turner. It wasn’t a surprise that the look won best dressed for the event. It’s all about sophistication at the track and texture in your choice garments is what elevates the look such as the integration of pleats and lace.
A close favorite was also a pleated BCBG dress spotted during the event. The ease and flow of the dress fit the overall atmosphere of the day. To finish the look, a 20s’ style headband was the perfect accompaniment.
Guests were also excited for none other than the races that took place. Even those who were not avid racetrack goers took their turn on betting on races.
Local style blogger Alison Hutchinson says, “ e don’t really know what we’re doing when it comes to betting but it’s fun and we’re not expecting to score a huge prize.”
A ’20s style jazz inspired performance brought guests back to the flapper era while enjoying some great eats, sips and company. While the hot weather was a challenge for guests there, it certainly did not break the spirit of the day as guests are looking forward to another year of the Deighton Cup.
