Rich hues such as deep berries are making a splash for fall.

People say that being one step ahead is what it takes to succeed and the fashion industry has been literal in this notion for quite some time now. Just like clock work you often feel like youre living in the past as fall and spring previews come around. Theres nothing quite like the excitement of being the first to touch that designer couture dress that probably cost more than two months of your rent or sliding your feet into a great pair of Italian sling backs that somehow make the walk of life more enjoyable.

Its always great to be in the know, see through the eyes of designers and how they view movement within culture. Fashion is more than just clothes and the numbers paint a clear picture considering consumers spent a total of $108 billon U.S. on beauty products last year. Makeup has contributed an integral role in creating the feel of looks coming down the runway and in the pages of magazines. Since we love to be in the know of whats coming up next season, I received an inside scoop from MAC cosmetics on whats hitting the runways and into stores.

When it comes to makeup, the same rules apply much like fashion. The age-old rule of balance is in effect with makeup. Choose one statement area of focus whether its a berry rouge lip or smoky eyes. Basically, if you go for a darker eye, balance it out with a lighter lip. For fall, you will notice the presence of deeper tones of red and berry. With every season, trends in makeup tend to oscillate between matte and shine. The fall brings matte makeup into the forefront and lipsticks are seeing an emergence of higher pigment colors for longer stay.

Less is more when it comes to makeup. Your makeup should fit your lifestyle and highlight your best quality instead of hiding something you deem undesirable. As a general rule for myself, I focus on lips for the day and eye makeup for the night. If youre feeling adventurous, try adding shine on the top of your eyelid paired with a bold matte lipstick. The juxtaposition of matte and shine will keep things interesting and has also been dominating the runway for fall collections.

Makeup brushes will also see new light to aid with application ease. MAC will be releasing new makeup brushes that match the direction of application to how you hold the brush to minimize maneuvering.

If youre looking for cool collaboration that will be flying off he shelves, the RiRi (aka Rihanna) and MAC is it for fall.
