Top 5 things to do in Vancouver tonight: Feb. 10, 2015

Get heckling: “ In the year 3000, man is no match for the Psychlo’s, a greedy, manipulative race of aliens on a quest for ultimate profit.

Get heckling: In the year 3000, man is no match for the Psychlo’s, a greedy, manipulative race of aliens on a quest for ultimate profit. Led by the powerful Terl, the Psychlo’s are stripping Earth clean of its natural resources, using the broken remnants of humanity as slaves. What is left of the human race has descended into a near primitive state. After being captured, it is up to Tyler to save mankind.

Will young Tyler – played by Vancouver’s very own Barry Pepper – prevail? Tune in at 7 p.m. at the Rio Theatre as The Gentlemen Hecklers (Eric Fell, Patrick Maliha and Shaun Stewart) give the Statler and Waldorf treatment to John Travolta’s 15-year-old box-office bomb Battlefield Earth.

Get down under: It’ll be Ash Tuesday at the Fox Cabaret when Melbourne-based bluesman Ash Grunwald hits the stage in support of his new album Gargantua. Local six-piece The Wayward Hearts open the show.

Get improvising: There is only one rule at Improv Fight Club at Café Deux Soleil: Always say yes. You're totally allowed to talk about Improv Fight Club and, in fact, performers would probably prefer it if you told as many people as possible about it. The Fictionals are back in action tonight as the city’s top improv performers do their thing on Café Deux’s wee stage.

Get fabulous: Burlesque beauties April O’Peel, Sparkle Plenty and Sweet Munish host the monthly Gastown Cabaret downstairs at Guilt & Company below Chill Winston. February’s FABruary soiree features all the sexy belly dancing, juggling, drag queens and comedy you could ask for on a rainy Tuesday in Vancouver. Audience participation highly encouraged.

Get shorties: All five of this year’s Oscar crop of animated shorts, including Canadian contender Me and My Moulton, are currently running at VanCity Theatre. Tonight’s screening begins at 6:30 p.m.
