Get serenaded: Breakout British soul singer Sam Smith brings his Grammy-nominated tunes to Rogers Arena. Assuming the tour is still on considering the Feb. 2 show in Seattle was called off at the last minute. Hopefully tonight's won't be considering, apart from anything, the 22-year-old could probably use the money now after having to share a chunk of his royalties from “Stay With Me,” which has sold more than 3.5 million downloads since its release last April, with Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne after it was noticed the song passes more than just a passing similarity to their 1989 hit “I Won’t Back Down.”

Get maternal: Billed as a kind of Mum’s the Word for the next generation, the collaborative play Motherload comes to life for the first time tonight at the Cultch. Directed by Caravan Farm Theatre artistic director Courtenay Dobbie and created by theatre artists Emelia Symington Fedy, Jody-Kay Marklew, Juno Rinaldi and Sonja Bennett, the new show tackles the ins and outs of what it’s like to join the world’s biggest club.  “There are scenes about what a sleep-deprived mom would love to scream at her whiny child, another about sex and motherhood, 'or how there isn’t any,' and what it’s like to realize that your son’s behavioural problems mirror your own,” says arts reporter Cheryl Rossi. Motherload runs until Feb. 21.

Get your queer on: The Astoria’s monthly Queer As F**k Party takes place tonight, as it does the first Wednesday as every month due to popular demand. Shots of Jameson are a mere $3.50 to help put revellers in the mood to hit the dancefloor. Beats provided by DJ Kasey Riot and Germany’s Northskill.

Get your mojo back: As part of Psychology Month, Dr. Patrick Myers offers words of wisdom for those down in the dumps on how to recapture your lust for life through a variety of techniques in a free 7 p.m. info session tonight at the Mount Pleasant library branch.

Get shown what BSB are made of: Backstreet’s back, albeit only on the Rio Theatre’s screen, in this behind-the-scenes documentary Backstreet Boys: Show ‘Em What You’re Made Of that should hold over Vancouver’s easily pleased legions of boy band enthusiasts until the May 5 New Kids On The Block show at Rogers Arena. Or One Direction at (yikes) BC Place July 17.
