Mary Dopson and Bernie Percy have both been named volunteer of the year by the Kerrisdale Community Centre and will be honoured at the facility’s Christmas luncheon Thursday. The 96-year-old Dopson not only volunteers her time at centre but also knits tea cosies, hats and furniture “socks,” which are sold in the gift shop. Dopson’s son Ken told the Courier last week he couldn’t be prouder of his mom, a former competitive runner who continued to race into her 90s.
