Three of Vancouver’s top chefs are teaming up to help families that have lost everything to the wildfires in Fort McMurray
Vancouver chefs Jefferson Alvarez (Mosquito), Kris Barnholden (LaTab) and Hamid Salimian (Vancouver Community College culinary program head) are joining forces to produce some signature dishes this Monday to raise money for the ravaged Northern Alberta city.
While many Canadians are already helping, the trio thought a unique way of raising money would be a special menu and dinner for Vancouver foodies.
“There are a lot of people in need right now,” says Alvarez. “Food brings people together, so why don't we bring people to help and give them a sumptuous way of donating.”
The special fundraising dinner will be at Barnholden’s LaTab Wine Bar this Monday, May 23, with two seatings available: one at 630pm and one at 930pm.
Partnering with the trio of chefs are Joie Farm Winery, TXOTX Basque Imports, Northern Divine Caviar, Hills Foods, Grown Here Farms, Four Winds Brewery, Strange Fellows Brewery, Odd Society Spirits and Stile Wines, who will each be donating their products for the fundraising effort.
“We are all Canadians and have a tradition of helping each other in times of need,” says Krystine McInnes, president and CEO of Grown Here Farms. “This is a wonderful way to both help and expose our homegrown food expertise and products to as many people as possible.”
The four-course menu promises to be a creative affair with these three local masters of molecular gastronomy serving up dishes like avocado gazpacho with arugula and sunflower microgreens and dessert pine gelato, with dry apple and frosted reindeer moss.
Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Fires Appeal.
