Vancouverites were amongst the first urban dwellers to fully embrace the eat local movement. Today, many restaurants proudly say where they get their food products from on their menus. The locavore movement is also thriving when it comes to what we imbibe.
But how do city residents have such bounty so close by? To recognize some of the people who are keeping our bellies full, theres a new popular choice awards program. We (Heart) Local Awards wants people to salute their favourite local foodsters by voting in an online campaign.
Nominations are open from July 1 to 15 and voting will be from July 16 to August 5 in the following categories:
Favourite store to buy local
Favourite BC farmers market
Favourite local meat or poultry supplier
Favourite local seafood supplier
Favourite local winery
Favourite local brewery
Favourite local food truck
Favourite local u-pick farm
Favourite local orchard/fruit supplier
Favourite local cheese maker
Favourite local sweet treat
Favourite local advocate
Favourite local restaurant or café
Favourite local chef
Favourite local florist or Greenhouse.
