Imagine having free access to most of Vancouver's cultural institutions for an entire week. You could go to the aquarium in the morning, the art gallery in the afternoon, fit in a swim at one of the city's pools and then take in a Vancouver Symphony Orchestra concert one day. The next day you might start at Science World, head over to the Space Centre and take a yoga class at another rec centre so you'd be fully relaxed as you sat listening to the Vancouver Bach Choir that night.

All of this is possible through the Vancouver Public Library's Inspiration Pass. For two weeks, the pass gives you access to 21 activities or venues. All you need to qualify for the pass is a library card.

There is one hitch, however. Although there are 120 passes in the system, they are not surprisingly very much in demand. Right now there are about 10,000 holds but since some people put a hold on each of the passes, the wait is not as intimidating as it might seem. As well, you basically have to use the pass when your name comes up.

Most of the passes are for two adults and up to four children/teens but there are also teen passes for six designed to get teens interested in going to cultural events together.

"We're definitely not a no-fun city," says Marya Gadison, VPL's communications co-ordinator.
