A section of 10th Avenue on the border of Burnaby and New Westminster remained closed Wednesday morning after a serious crash involving a young male pedestrian.

Emergency crews were called to 10th Avenue by 18th Street near Byrne Creek Community School at 6:59 a.m., according to assistant fire Chief Greg Young.
He said a young male was taken to hospital.
The pedestrian, an 18-year-old male, sustained serious, life-threatening injuries, according to Burnaby RCMP.

The driver of the car remained on scene, police said.
Photos of the car show damage to the hood near the driver’s side and a smashed windshield.
The nearest crosswalk in the area is at 10th Avenue and 20th Street-Griffiths Drive, more than a block away from the site of the collision.
