411 Seniors Centre Society celebrates its new home with an open house June 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The seniors centre had been located at 411 Dunsmuir St., but last year the building was sold for $8 million. For decades, 411 had been an inclusive resource and drop-in centre for seniors, which provided tools, services, programs and activities that enabled low-income seniors to live independent lives and thrive. At one time the centre offered more than 45 different programs including language classes, dancing, fitness, yoga, creative writing and art, as well as assistance filling out income tax and health care forms. The centre also offered programs for gay, lesbian and transsexual seniors. The new centre is at 704-333 Terminal Ave., one block east of the Main Street SkyTrain station. The event includes coffee and cake and an Information Fair on seniors' issues and trends.
