What are Vancouverites tweeting about? These are the insights offered by Twitter Canada’s general manager, Rory Capern.
1) When it comes to engagement, the city’s top three Twitter conversations in 2017 have been about Shah Rukh Khan’s TEDx Vancouver presentation, the concert by Korean pop sensation SHINee, and the July 8 Shawn Mendes concert.

2) The top five mentioned accounts are @iamsrk (Shah Rukh Khan), @youtube, @TEDTalks, @vancitybuzz and @vanaqua.
3) The most mentioned hashtags are #jobs, #nowplaying, #hiring, #bcpoli, #vanpoli.

4) @mayorgregor is the sixth most-followed mayor in Canada. Calgary’s @nenshi reigns at number one.
5) The most Twitter mentions in 2017 were about B.C. politics.
6) Not specific to Vancouver, Canada’s most followed athlete is @stevenash. On the entertainment front, @carlyraejepsen and @michaelbuble are right up there. @vancityreynolds is also hugely popular; Capern says actor Ryan Reynolds’ tweets are “absolutely hysterical”, although obviously not when a stunt woman dies on the set of a movie he stars in.
