The 28th annual Women’s Memorial March will take to the streets of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside tomorrow.
The event, which started in 1992, sees thousands of people turn out to walk in memory of Downtown Eastside women who lost their lives to violence, poverty and illness.
The first march was organized in response to the murder of a woman on Powell Street and it has continued annually to honour the lives of missing and murdered women, and all women’s lives lost on the Downtown Eastside.
The general public is invited to gather at Main and Hastings starting at 11:30. The march will start at noon following a prayer circle. The procession makes several stops along the way for ceremonies to honour where women were last seen, or found.
