The family-friendly comedy Family Ties, starring Vancouver’s Michael J. Fox, debuts on NBC.

Fox, whose first role was in the locally shot CBC series Leo and Me, soon became a household name thanks largely due to his lead role as Alex P. Keaton, the arch-conservative son of hippie parents living in the suburbs of Columbus, Ohio.

He earned three Emmy awards for his seven-year stint on Family Ties and was nominated for two more.
