The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. is investigating an incident in Vancouver where a motorcyclist was injured during an attempted traffic stop.

B.C.’s provincial police watchdog is looking into a case where a motorcyclist was injured during an attempted traffic stop by Vancouver police.

The Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner of B.C. notified the province’s Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIO) that at around 10:30 p.m. on May 23, a Vancouver police officer attempted to stop a motorcyclist on Granville Street.

A short time later, the motorcyclist drove through the intersection of West King Edward and Granville Street and then fell off the bike.

The man was taken into custody and complained of pain before being transported to hospital where it was determined he had sustained serious injuries.

The IIO is asking anyone who witnessed the incident to call the witness line at 1-855-446-8477.

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency for police in B.C. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
