The third instalment of a benefit bash featuring brews and bros will take to the confines of the Britannia Rink Saturday afternoon.
Running from 4 to 10 p.m., the Beer League Bash hockey fundraiser combines a craft beer festival, round-robin tournament and swap meet.
Organized by Bomber Brewing, 15 local breweries spanning Metro Vancouver will offer samplers over the course of the event while the quest for Beer Bash supremacy plays out on the ice.
All proceeds go to the Britannia After School Hockey Program, which gives underprivileged teenagers an opportunity to learn and play the game.
Donations of gently-used gear will also be accepted, and attendees will receive a beer token for their generosity.
More than $5,000 has been raised from the first two tourneys, along with a slew of donated gear.
“It’s all about giving more kids the chance to benefit from hockey,” Bomber Brewing creative director Cam Andrews told the Courier in an email. “We all grew up playing it, and just got so much from it. Every kid should get that chance.”
The participating breweries include Yellow Dog, Strangefellows, Steel & Oak, Steamworks, Red Truck, Powell Street, Parallel 49, Moody Ales, Main Street, Luppolo, Doan’s Central City, Callister, Bridge, and Bomber.
Tickets cost $25 and include three beer tokens, along with admission to the afterparty. Attendees must be over the age of 19.
