It’s that age-old question that circulates around the office: do you come back to work the day after winning the lottery?
Well, it’s a dilemma that Ping Kuen Shum doesn’t have to contemplate. He bought his winning $2 million BC/49 Lottery ticket in Richmond the day he retired.
And to top it all off, it was also Shum’s birthday. It doesn’t get much better than that.
After officially retiring on Saturday, April 28, Shum apparently was feeling lucky and bought a lottery ticket at Parker Place in Richmond on the way home to Vancouver.
He matched all six numbers on Saturday night’s draw - 9, 12, 13, 18, 21 and 29 - to scoop the entire jackpot.
"It's unbelievable that all three events happened on the same day," Shum said in a statement.
"I have worked hard for so many years and I'm looking forward to sharing this fortune with my family."
The lottery wouldn't disclose what he did for a living, but mentioned that Shum was going to treat his family and friends to a “lovely dim sum meal” and is now planning a trip to China.
The odds of matching all the numbers for the BC/49 lottery are almost 14 million to one.
