Choi loses title in fifth straight Stanley Park Open final

Vancouver duo Cheng and Sweeting knock off favourites to win women's doubles

Vancouvers defending Stanley Park Open champion Henry Choi relented his title to Port Coquitlams George Jecimenek in Sundays 81st playing of the popular amateur tennis tournament.

Ranked No. 1 heading into the finale, Choi lost the first set but came on strong in the second, only to lose the third to the No. 3-ranked player 5-7, 6-1, 5-7.

This was Chois fifth consecutive mens final. He won the Stanley Park Open in 2008, 2009 and 2011.

In the womens doubles final, Jena Cheng and Wan-Yi Sweeting of Vancouver knocked off the top-seeded team of Monica Neveklovska of West Vancouver and Victorias Kelsey Anonsen 7-5, 6-2.

In mens doubles, Vancouver brothers David and Daniel Chu couldnt unseat the top-ranked Victoria duo of Nick Coutts and Patrick Flint who reclaimed their title 6-4, 7-5.

In the womens single draw, Burnabys Katerina Boiko defended the title she won a year ago and defeated third-seed Jena Cheng of Edmonton 6-2, 7-5. Boiko was the top seed in the womens draw.

More than 2,000 competitors took part in more than 80 age and skill divisions in the 81st edition of North Americas largest community tennis tournament.
