B.C. Transplant would "like" it if more people would sign up to be organ donors. A new partnership with Facebook that allows users to both broadcast their organ donor status on their timeline and/or register to donate if they haven't already should help.
The new tool allowing Americans to register through the social networking site launched four months ago, and thousands of new donors quickly signed up. B.C. Transplant hopes the high success rate will transplant to Canada.
"It doesn't take more than a few clicks to register online, and we're hoping this will help make organ donation part of the social conversation," said B.C. Transplant executive director Greg Grant in a release. "More than 85 per cent of British Columbians agree with organ donation yet only 18 per cent have registered."
At last count, 849,552 British Columbians had registered their willingness to donate.
