The elderly man assaulted outside Costco just before Christmas has died.
The 86-year-old sustained at head injury during an altercation with a 57-year-old man at around 11 a.m. on Dec. 20 on Expo Boulevard. The victim never recovered from his injuries.
“This is an isolated and tragic incident and there is no concern for public safety,” Sgt. Jason Robillard said in a press release.
The suspect fled on foot while bystanders performed first aid on the victim until paramedics arrived. The 57-year-old suspect was arrested almost two hours later near his home in East Vancouver.
Robillard said the suspect has not yet been charged but officers are continuing to investigate and will report to Crown counsel once the investigation is completed.
