From GranFondo Whistler
On Saturday, September 8, as many as 7,000 cyclists will ride the spectacular journey along Sea to Sky Highway 99 from Vancouver to Whistler in the third annual RBC GranFondo Whistler. An event of this magnitude will involve some closures along the event route.
Traffic modifications will be in effect and motorists who need to travel on September 8 are advised to plan ahead as there will be delays on some routes along the event course. Motorists are advised to use extra caution around cyclists and to obey all traffic control personnel.
The 122 km event starts on Georgia Street in downtown Vancouver and runs north along Sea to Sky Highway 99 including the Lions Gate Bridge to end in Whistler.
The race starts at 6:45 a.m. on Georgia Street west of Burrard and will continue through Stanley Park and across the Lions Gate bridge. Only one southbound lane on Lions Gate Bridge will be open from 6 to 8 a.m. Northbound travellers must use Second Narrows Bridge as an alternative during that time.
Other closures include:
West Georgia between Thurlow and Burrard will be closed from 3:15 to 9 a.m.'
West Georgia and approaching cross streets between Seymour and Burrard will be closed from 5 to 8 am
Marine Drive westbound between Capilano road and Taylor Way will be closed from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. Use signed detour routes
There's no access to northbound Taylor Way from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m.

Spectators:
On the day of the event, spectators may view and support the cyclists along the route. Three designated Spectator Areas will be set up at the following locations.
Park Royal Mall and Overpass, West Vancouver. An exciting area to watch the riders will be from the Park Royal overpass, at the bottom of Taylor Way.
Garibaldi Mall, Squamish. The 55 km Medio event will start from Garibaldi Mall at 9:00am. Also, from 8:30am to 12noon, a complete market place will be set up with vendors and merchants from the Squamish Business Sector.
Olympic Celebration Plaza, Whistler. The first finisher is expected to cross the line in Whistler at approximately 10:15am. Families are encouraged to gather in Whistler to watch all riders finish. A full day of celebration will be held including live music, kids activities, food and beverage service, and a beer garden.
