A former Vancouver park board lifeguard was arrested at his home Wednesday on charges related to alleged sexual assaults against four young boys that reportedly took place between 1971 and 1982.
Acting on information provided in June 2012, the Vancouver Police Sex Crimes Unit initiated an investigation into allegations against a 70-year-old man of sexual misconduct.
Abraham Kiewiet was arrested Wednesday.
Investigators believe the alleged offences occurred while Kiewiet was employed as a lifeguard by the park board. During that time he instructed at the Vancouver Lifeguard School and volunteered as a coach at a YMCA aquatic safety program.
VPD officers have conducted numerous inquiries and as a result four victims have now come forward. At the time of the offences, the victims were between the ages of 11 and 17. The four men are now in their 40s and 50s.
Kiewiet has been charged with five counts of indecent assault on a male and five counts of gross indecency.
Kiewiet has been released on a promise to appear motion and his next scheduled court appearance is Oct. 10 at 222 Main St.
Sex Crimes Unit Investigators continue to conduct inquiries and believe that there are other victims yet to come forward.
