Road Warriors: Yours truly emceed the Great Terracotta Warrior Banquet and Auction at the Continental Seafood Restaurant in Richmond. Thirty-two of the seven foot fiberglass statues painted by B.C. artists and adorning Lower Mainland streets, buildings and attractions since April went up for sale. Nearly 300 guests attended the 10-course dinner and live auction overseen by Maynard's Barry Scott. The art auction raised $170,000 towards Easter Seals programs and services for children with disabilities throughout B.C. and the Yukon. Much Movies: Deepa Mehta's much anticipated Midnight's Children opened the Vancouver International Film Festival. The adaptation of Salman Rushdie's Booker-Prize winning novel kicked off the 31st edition of the festival, which will screen 380 films including 107 Canuck films and some of this year's Cannes award winners.

All Singing All Serving: Chor Leoni men's choir hosted its annual At Home recital, dinner and auction fundraiser in a posh Point Grey home with beautifully prepared food paired with carefully chosen wines, a celebrity emcee and sparkling repartee. Such was the case at the Brown residence where founder and artistic director Diane Loomer fronted the lavish luau. The 20-year conductor also took the opportunity to introduce her successor, Erick Lichte, who will assume the position next September.
