Make recycling your Christmas tree a New Year tradition. Once you’ve removed all the tinsel and decorations from your live, cut tree, you have three free options for getting it recycled:
Lions Clubs Chipping Events
In partnership with Lions Club, residents are invited to bring their Christmas trees to one of the four locations listed below on Saturday, Jan. 7, and Sunday, Jan. 8, from 10am-4pm.
• Kerrisdale Community Ice Rink parking lot (5670 E. Blvd)
• Sunset Beach upper parking lot (Beach Ave. and Broughton St.)
• Kitsilano Beach parking lot (Cornwall Ave. and Arbutus St.)
• Trout Lake Community Centre (3360 Victoria). Donations of cash and non-perishable food items are welcome and will be distributed to local charities.
Residential Tree Collection
Christmas trees will be collected citywide on the weekend of January 14-15. To ensure your tree is collected, set it out before 7am on Saturday, Jan. 14. Trees should be set out on their own and laid on their sides. Do not put your tree inside your green bin or bag or bundle it.
Free Drop-off at Transfer Station or Landfill
Christmas trees can be dropped off until Jan. 31, at no charge, to the Vancouver South Transfer Station (377 W. Kent N.) or the Vancouver Landfill (5400 72nd, Delta).
Please remember to remove all tinsel and decorations before recycling your tree; these materials contaminate the compost made from collected trees.
Last year, Lions Clubs chipped over 2,200 trees. Over 60,000 trees have been chipped since the City and Lions Club first partnered in 1996.
