Honours of the week for C's despite string of losses

Canadians drop three-straight in Everett

In a week of three-straight losses, a pair of Canadians earned player-of-the-week honours to soften the blow of tumbling out of top spot in the Northwest League.

First baseman Balbino Fuenmayor and pitcher Javier Avendano on Monday were named the Northwest Leagues player and pitcher for the week of June 17 to 24.

Fuenmayor, 22, went six-for-10 with seven RBI in three games against the Tri-City Dust Devils at Scotiabank Field to help the Canadians reach a Northwest League leading 8-2 record through the teams first 10 games.

Avendano, 21, pitched in three games, including a pair of starts for the defending Northwest League champions. The native of Venezuela struck out 14 batters over a total nine innings and allowed just five hits.

To start the week, the Canadians lost three-straight games on a road trip to Everett and downgraded their league-leading record to eight wins and five losses.

The were thrashed by the Aquasox Monday in a 13-2 defeat. That was followed by a closer game but a loss nonetheless when the Cs fell 6-5 Tuesday and then 5-3 Wednesday.

The Cs return to Vancouver for a six-game home stand, beginning Thursday 7:05 p.m. against the Eugene Emeralds.

Salem-Kaizer is in town for three games beginning Canada Day on July 1.
