The VPLs sweet 16 party includes a time capsule burial, birthday cake and lightening-fast book reviews from the VPLs sassy and smart staff. Events kick off at 10am, free. And while youre giving some love to the local library, plan to head out to the VPLs public input sessions to help shape its new branch to be built in Strathcona/Downtown Eastside (730 E. Hastings). GOOD NEIGHBOURS: With temporary foreign workers now outnumbering immigrants in Vancouver, the newly formed Foreign Workers Local Neighbours campaign brings together city councillors, community members and workers advocates for a free documentary screening and open discussion May 28 at the Vancouver Public Library central branch (350 W. Georgia) from 3:30-5pm. Come out and join the conversation about how the arrival of thousands of foreign temporary workers are impacting and changing communities in Vancouver, and how residents can help ease their transition. YOUTH MOVEMENT: Think todays youth are a bunch of narcissistic technophiles? Think again. The Youth Volunteer Organizational Committee (Youth VOC) and West Vancouver MP John Weston present HEY Day (Help Every Youth Day) at West Vancouvers Park Royal Shopping Centre. Nearly 15 international and local volunteer organizations will be on hand to capitalize on the energy and enthusiasm of young people looking to contribute to their communities, local or global, through volunteerism. LIKE RIDING A BIKE: With warmer weather (sort of) here, Bike to Work week is once again upon us. From May 30 - June 5 the office-dwellers among us are encouraged to take to the streets with a two-wheeled entourage, peddling towards better bodies and helping alleviate the environmental stresses of commuting. Presented by the Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition in partnership with various Metro Vancouver municipalities, bike-friendly festivities, resources and festivities will be found throughout the city on bike commuter routes. New this year, the VACC is offering lunch-hour workplace workshops to brush up on the basics of safe and happy human-powered transportation. And while youre out celebrating the cycling revolution, join in on the Velopalooza kickoff ride, June 2 at Yaletowns David Lam Park at 7pm and head toward the Waldorf Hotel (1489 E.
