It's a favourite campus tradition at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, but fans of the annual snowball fight on the Main Mall are going to have to wait for things to thaw out a little bit.

Thanks to Tuesday night and Wednesday morning's epic snowfall, UBC has cancelled the snowball fight, which had been set for 12:30 p.m. today.

UBC is among the many post-secondary institutions in Metro Vancouver and southern B.C. that cancelled classes and services Wednesday.

The event has been rescheduled for 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

UBC students are invited to don their snow gear and costumes, and get ready to roll and throw -- but are warned to "please leave the ice bombs alone" to keep things safe.

Oh, and watch the clock: "To make it as hype as possible, don't throw a single snowball until the official countdown at exactly 12:30."

The snow will be flying on either side of Main Mall between Sauder and the chemistry building. Lineup is at 12:15 p.m.
