The Jericho Arts Centre is being recognized as one of the city's Places That Matter. The Vancouver Heritage Foundation will present the historic West Side complex, a former Royal Canadian Air Force recreation hall, with a special plaque at a ceremony this Saturday (Sept. 22) from 12 to 2 p.m. at 1675 Discovery St. All are welcome to attend. Cake and refreshments will be served.
The Places That Matter project evolved from the Vancouver 125th Anniversary celebrations when the heritage foundation asked the public to nominate a place, person, or event that is important to Vancouver but that has yet to receive the acknowledgement that it deserves.
As an official spot of civic significance, the Jericho Arts Centre joins the likes of the Lee Building, Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Gardens, the Penthouse Nightclub and the elm trees on East Sixth Avenue between Nanaimo and Woodland.
