L.A.s Cheeky Tweet
The L.A. Kings gave Canucks Nation another reason to cry into their Wheaties over the indignity of being the most loathed team in NHL. On Wednesday night following a 4-2 loss at home in the first game of the Western Conference first-round series, Canucks faithful were outraged over a flippant Tweet from the official Kings Twitter account.
To everyone in Canada outside of B.C. youre welcome, was posted by an unidentified staffer who both bragged about the Kings opening win and pandered to the countrys regionalism as if all Canucks are united in opposing the Vancouver Canucks.
I give points to the (presumed) American who could name a Canadian province. Jokes aside, such cheeky trash talk is so common its mundane but not from the official social media mouthpiece of an NHL franchise. In this case, its both unusual and entertaining. The Kings did not delete the Tweet but in a release Thursday morning apologized. Nonetheless, the playful tone may continue. We encourage our digital team to be creative, interactive and to apply a sense of humour whenever possible. To anyone who found it offensive we sincerely apologize.
Misguided ride-along
As much as I love the idea of cycling over acres of asphalt unburdened by the speed and chrome of 100 revving car engines, the Community Ride-Along isnt the way to do it. Despite what I like to think are good intentions to make the most of cleared roadways and plan a family event, the ride-along is mistaken to take advantage of the BMO Vancouver Marathon this way. The organizers (who are unnamed and didnt respond to email messages) behind the experimental and spontaneous event are wrong to think the 42.1-kilometre full-marathon course will be barricaded and cleared of traffic. It wont. It will be chaos.
And such a comment like this does not engender the good will of race organizers, police or the citys special events department: The ride-along will take advantage of the financial investments and hard work of the Vancouver Marathon organizers, sponsors and volunteers in setting up a barricaded course.
