Join B.C. Blind Sports Friday evening for the 32nd annual Run for Light. All runners receive glow-in-the-dark T-shirts and light sticks for the sunset 4.3-kilometre family-oriented run. The event begins 9: 32 p.m. at Lumberman's Arch in Stanley Park. Warm-up begins at 9: 12 p.m. Registration for individual racers is $28 to $30 and $93.60 for teams of four to 10 runners. Registration can be done at the park before the event. Proceeds support the B.C. Blind Sport and Recreation Association. Visit bcblindsports.bc.ca.

The Lions Gate Road Runners host the 30th annual Shaughnessy 8K, a middle-distance event that doubles as the B.C. Athletics 8K Road Race Championship and is the sixth of 11 races in the Lower Mainland Road Race Series. The clock begins at 8: 30 a.m. at the Cyclone Taylor Arena in Kerrisdale (5670 East Blvd.). The course winds through the hilly streets of manicured Shaughnessy. The Art Porter Memorial award goes to the fastest male and female agegroup runners along with a $50 gift certificate to the Running Room. The course is shortened for Cindy's 5K Poker Walk. Participants collect a card at kilometres one through five, and the best poker hands win a prize. (Trading isn't allowed.) For more details, visit lgrr.com.

Youth football

Registration is open for the summer tackle football season with both city teams the Westside Warriors and Vancouver Trojans. The 10game season begins in August. Practices begin in May and June. Tackle football age groups are Atom (born 2003-04), Peewee (2001-02), Junior Bantam (1999-2000) and Midget (1994-95). Visit westsidefootball.bc.ca and vancouvertrojans.net.
