LIGHTS OUT

Vancouverites only have a few more days to take in some of the city's bright holiday displays. Bloedel Conservatory's nightly light show waits for the world to dim before it alights with a rainbow of colours.

Vancouverites only have a few more days to take in some of the city's bright holiday displays. Bloedel Conservatory's nightly light show waits for the world to dim before it alights with a rainbow of colours. The small tropical half-globe adorns exotic plants with festive bulbs, and you'll likely see roosting parrots that will occasionally offer visitors a welcoming whistle. Dubbed the Jewel Box of Lights, hours are 4: 30 to 9 p.m. at Queen Elizabeth Park until Jan. 1.

The Stanley Park Christmas Train, a fixture of the Vancouver holiday experience for the last 15 years, blends goodwill with holiday fun. More than two million lights brighten the forest train tour through a small portion of the 400hectare park. Visitors can also take in the free public displays set up by the B.C. Professional Fire Fighters' Burn Fund, which receives partial proceeds from the event. Trains run nightly starting at 3 p.m., with varied afternoon hours. Open daily with the last viewing on Jan. 1. Visit vancouver.ca for complete hours.
