Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the city’s 13th homicide this year after a man was found dead Sunday afternoon in the front passenger’s seat of a Toyota Camry in a busy mall parking lot.

Duy Ly Nguyen, 30, of Ontario was the victim of what police believe is an ongoing conflict between gangs.

Shortly after 2 p.m., police received several 9-1-1 calls about shots being fired in the parking lot on King Edward Avenue, near Oak Street. . Witnesses, many of whom clearly shaken by the incident, were transported on a bus to a VPD building to be interviewed.

As of Monday, no arrests had been made.

The normally quiet neighbourhood, which was once home to Mayor Gregor Robertson, was last rattled by gunshots in December 2010 when 10 people were shot at Best Neighbours restaurant on Oak Street, near 23rd Avenue. No one died in the shooting.
