One man is dead after a shooting in an East Vancouver neighbourhood Wednesday night.

Just before 8 p.m. several 9-1-1 callers reported hearing gun shots in the area of Cambridge and Nanaimo streets near Tillicum Community Annex school. Officers arrived to find one man suffering from gunshot wounds.

He was rushed to hospital but died a short time later.

Police are describing the incident as targeted.

“It is still very early in the investigation, but based on the information collected so far, investigators do not believe there is a risk to the general public,” VPD media relations officer Const. Jason Doucette said in a press release.

This is the city’s 12th homicide of the year.

More to come.
