Stuck looking for last minute gift ideas? Metro Vancouver has an app for that.

The regional government launched its seventh annual Create Memories, Not Garbage campaign last month. The yearly initiative aims to increase awareness of the unnecessary waste that comes with the holidays and includes suggestions for experienced-based or long-lasting gift ideas, as well as tips for reducing food waste, gift wrapping and decorating.

Since the campaign began in 2011 the amount of waste going to the landfill over Christmas has decreased by six per cent annual.

New to the campaign this year is the Merry Memory Maker app, at metrovancouver.org/christmas/memory-maker, which helps gift givers with suggestions of experiences or items, including handmade and second-hand gifts, in a variety of price ranges.

For those looking to gift an experience, the campaign includes printable or electronic coupons that can be personalized online.
