Skiers, snowboarders and tobogganers will be able to take to the slopes on Mt. Seymour ski resort today — Dec. 1 — when the mountain officially opens for snow-filled action from 1 to 9 p.m.
A traditional blessing conducted by Tsleil-Waututh elder Marge George at the base of the Mystery Peak Express Chairlift is scheduled for 12:50 p.m. prior to first chair.
A Mt. Seymour press release notes the Mystery Peak Express Chairlift and Goldie Magic Carpet will be open, along with the Rockstar Pit and Mushroom terrain parks.
The release also states that the Alpine Activity Centre will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for season pass printing, equipment rentals, and area passes. Weekend hours for skiing and snowboarding is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“(It’s) great conditions, I think we’ll be opening with around a metre of snow at the base area, which is really exciting,” Simon Whitehead, Mt. Seymour marketing and communications manager, told the North Shore News.
Both Cypress and Grouse mountain resorts have been open since Nov. 10.
