Health officials are warning members of the public who traveled through Vancouver International Airport over the weekend that they may have been exposed to a new case of the measles.

Vancouver Coastal Health says the individual was in the international terminal of YVR in Richmond and exposure was possible between 10:25 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 13.

The individual was also on Japan Airlines flight JL018 from Tokyo to Vancouver.

In addition, the patient was at the following locations on Sunday, April 14:

  • Ramada by Wyndham, 631 Lougheed Highway, Coquitlam
  • Sun Star Restaurant (inside the Ramada) between 8:30 a.m. and 12 p.m.
  • Lougheed Town Centre in Burnaby between 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

VCH recommends that anyone who was at these locations during those time periods double check immunization records and watch for signs and symptoms of the measles.

Symptoms of the measles include fever, cough, runny nose and red eyes. A few days later, these symptoms are followed by a rash that starts on the face and spreads to the chest.

In February, Richmondites were on alert as multiple cases were reported in several locations across the city including Steveston, Lansdowne Centre and on the Canada Line.

VCH says this is the 27th confirmed case of the measles in B.C. so far this year.
