FEB. 27 - MARCH 1

While traditional print media continues to "evolve" or cling to life support, depending how you look at it, at least it makes good fodder for art, whether it's novels such as Tom Rachman's The Imperfectionists or documentaries like Page One: Inside the New York Times. You can add photography to that list with BRIAN HOWELL's new photo exhibit, PRESS. Howell, whose brother Mike is a reporter at the Vancouver Courier, visited newspaper printing plants across North America for a series of large scale images that offer a revealing look into an industry that's either on the precipice of great change or in the midst of its rapid demise. I sure hope there's free booze at this thing. The exhibit runs Feb. 28 to April 6 at Winsor Gallery (258 East First Ave.). For more info, go to winsorgallery.com.

The nimble minds at BOCA DEL LUPO are at it again with a series of cross-disciplinary performances and installations in non-traditional venues. THE ICE BOOK, by Davy and Kirstin McGuire, is a miniature theatre that incorporates fragile paper cutouts and video projections, combining animation, book art and performance. It runs Feb. 27 to March 2 at the Anderson Street Space on Granville Island. Children welcome. For tickets and more information, go to bocadellupo. com or call 604-684-2622.

Founded in 1959, the NATIONAL BALLET OF CHINA brings its production of SWAN LAKE to Canada for the first time. Introduced by Ballet BC, SWAN LAKE spreads its wings across the stage at Queen Elizabeth Theatre Feb. 27 to March 2. Tickets at ticketmaster.ca. For more information, visit balletbc.com.

The Vancouver Writers Festival's INCITE READING SERIES presents a double bill of West Coast humour with Arthur Black, who's latest pun-titled book of essays is called Looking Blackward, and actor JACKSON DAVIES, who celebrates the 40th anniversary of THE BEACHCOMBERS, offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the popular CBC television series. The saltwater flies Feb. 27, 7: 30 p.m. at the Alice McKay room of the Vancouver Public Library Central Branch (350 West Georgia). Admission is free, but those attending must register at incitevpl2013spring.eventbrite.ca.
