Pipe bomb charges laid in East Vancouver incident

Vancouver Police Department unwilling to provide many details

Charges have been laid in the case involving a homemade pipe bomb found inside a car on East Cordova Street last week.
However, media relations officer Const. Jason Doucette did not want to provide further details at Monday’s press conference at Vancouver Police Department headquarters.
Police are still actively investigating the incident, he said, adding “we don’t have any reason to believe that the public is at any further risk.”
Doucette says there was a car pulled over to the side of East Cordova near Hawks Ave. at 9 p.m. on January 19. The car’s four-way flashers were on so police officers in the area pulled over to find out if the person in the car was okay, Doucette said.
The 33-year-old West Vancouver man inside the car said he had a homemade pipe bomb in the car. The explosives disposal unit was called in and the bomb was safely destroyed.
