While hinting at the possibility of making changes to the road, the province said it will be getting involved in examining the deadly accident that claimed two lives on the Sea to Sky Highway near Alice Lake.
Five other locals were injured in the collision, which occurred on Jan. 2.
The Ministry of Transportation said that it will review the police report of the accident.
A statement provided to The Chief by a ministry representative said the province “will address safety improvements at the location as necessary. This may include adding [a] median barrier at this location, or other safety measures as necessary.”
“The location of median barrier is determined through consideration of a variety of factors, including: traffic volumes, posted speed limit, frequency of accesses and collision history,” the statement reads.

It’s a response that comes on the heels of the widespread publicity of the collision, as well as a petition from Squamish residents calling on the government to implement safety measures in the area where the crash occurred.
The Change.org petition, which is addressed to Transport Minister Claire Trevena, has more than 2,522 signatures as of early Wednesday evening.
The petition, started by Gagan Chagger, pleaded for concrete barriers that would separate opposing lanes on the stretch of the highway where the accident occurred.
RCMP said the incident happened in the evening when a northbound pickup truck bearing a lone driver crossed the centre line and collided with a southbound minivan carrying seven locals.
The accident has been a devastating blow to Squamish’s Indo-Canadian community. A fundraiser has been set up for the families.
