RANT/RAVE (Apr. 7)

City of glass

Ah, spring in Vancouver! Flowering trees, happy faces, sunny days and shitloads of broken glass. Im really tired of all the broken glass on the streets of Vancouver especially the build up on the viaducts into Vancouver on a Monday morning. People on the way to the E.D. (not erectile dysfunction I mean the Entertainment District) seem to have the need to drink and hurl the bottles out of the windows of their vehicles. Evidently the drink of choice is Smirnoff Passion Fruit vodka (fruity, tangy and lets you feel youre not in Vancouver when it is drizzling out). I have something unique to this rant: a solution. Well, actually two! The first idea will leave you thinking Im a genius or a god... How about not drinking and driving? Revolutionary! And two: drop your bottles gently off at the 7-11 or one of the multiple gas stations on the way into town, rather than up-chucking them into the street. And to the passers-by on a Sunday morning: consider picking up the glass from the classless people so people do not get cut or puncture their tires. I see so many people walk, bike and drive by the sweet-smelling passion fruit bottles avoiding them and doing nothing. We all need to try to keep things clean. See, glass and tires do not mix; then again, nor does drinking and driving.

A pile of crap

Its 11 after ten at night and I just stepped in a huge pile of dog crap in the dark coming out of Scotia Bank Theatre on Burrard. So Darren, your stupid rant about how dog lovers in this city are so great? You are full of crap yourself.

Jogging lanes needed

Im wondering when our mayor, Gregor Robertson, is going to install jogging lanes. I was driving through Kitsilano and Kerrisdale last weekend and there were a number of joggers in fours and five being forced off the sidewalk due to bikes on the sidewalk. Now, cars are supposed to travel on the roads and pedestrians are supposed to walk on the sidewalks but the joggers have absolutely no place to jog. Bikes have the use of roads, the expensive bike lanes and theyre still on the sidewalks. Wouldnt it be nice if joggers had a place to go too? It poses an interesting question for city council. There are more cars on the road, more pedestrians on the sidewalks and more joggers why do the bikes have the priority?

Flag-waving leads to war

In response to Marty in the Rant/Rave of late. Yeah Marty waving the flag. Were not flag-wavers in Canada as they are in the USA, OK, and other countries in Europe. Flag waving, and patriotism therein, causes wars. All the wars on the planet, OK. Read some literature. If we had no boundaries and borders and countries and distinctiveness between other human beings on the planet we wouldnt have fucking wars, OK. Hence what Im trying to say is if we didnt have countries, if the world was just one big fucking country, or if we just deleted country from our vocabulary, we wouldnt have wars. Flag-waving is saying us against them, OK? And were better than them. I guess Canadians are more broad-minded than that and we really dont care about flag-waving. So its got nothing to do with them buying a fucking $20 flag to put on the rooftop. Theyre interested in capitalism and collecting the rents thats why people invest in properties in the West End.

Get off the crack

This rant is directed to all of those people out there who are obsessed with showing their butt cracks. Why? Why do the rest of us need to look at your butt cracks when you are bending over in the card stores, the grocery stores never mind that the jeans you are wearing barely fit on the scrawny, little bony hips that you have. Please I dont want to see your butt cracks. Enough with the cracks!

Vancouvers most wanted

I just wanted to remind my fellow Westenders to check out the Most Wanted on the VPDs web page I spotted two of these goofs outside of my work place and the police were more than happy to take them to jail.

Rhyming rant

Theres a rant for the blossom lining my street, theres a rant for a smile from the people I greet, theres a rant for the day Im not HST, theres a rant for all the folks who love a good deed; theres a rant for the ranters who brighten my day, as I cherish the folks who have something to say.

On the rocks

Curling? I fucking hate curling. Why is it fucking on TV? Nobody fucking cares who wins. I care more about who wins the Roll-Up-The-Rim challenge.

Something to consider

Ive got something to say about riding the bus. I recently moved back to the city and as a result I use the bus quite a bit. I hear a lot of people complaining about young people and how inconsiderate they are. Well, Ive found exactly the opposite. Every time Im on the bus and an elderly person or woman with small children gets on theres three or four young people racing to get up and give up their seat. Im really impressed with the young people and the deserve some credit.
