Crossing the road
Im responding to the rant look both ways. Finally, Ive found someone else in this world that was brought up with proper manners for crossing the road and walking in front of cars. I dont know when it changed but particularly in the West End this is quite a problem. Ive had two incidences in the past week while driving where the pedestrians check you out of the corner of their eye thank God at least thats happening but its sort of like F-you, I will prove that I can just keep walking. This happens every week almost two to three times and Ill tell you I cannot believe this is what its come to. Ive gone to turn left and people just keep walking on Comox at Denman and they dont even stop. I stop and wait, they turn around and they give me the first. Somethings got to be done with the manners of the pedestrians in this town, its disgusting.

Drive me crazy
Re: Road Hogs, WE, Aug. 11. Although I certainly sympathize with your knee brace and crutches situation, Id like to add my comment about the intersection at Thurlow and Smithe streets. I drive through this intersection at least once a day and it infuriates me that pedestrians never obey the dont cross signal. This is the only opportunity for a car to make a left-hand turn. I have often had only three cars ahead of me and only one car gets through per green light. Why? Because ignorant pedestrians ignoring the flashing dont cross sign. Maybe this sheds some light on why motorists are impatient.

Lost and found
This is neither a rant nor rave, but a suggestion. Whenever we see notices of lost pets posted in our neighbourhood, my cat, Mrs. Parker, and I get very sad. Mrs. Parker is no pussycat and is not easily brought to tears. She is so tough, although small herself in stature, she beat up the chihuahua from down the hall. Last year we found a notice posted by the people who had lost their dog saying that he had been found, and this made our day. There was a phone number on the original lost notice so we called those folks and thanked them for sharing the information. I wonder if others could follow their fine example and do the same. We dont expect the same amount of postering for a found animal, but several around the neighbourhood would bear the good news and would be a balm for Mrs. Parker, me and others who care about such things.

Boorish behaviour
Whats up with all these yahoos in Vancouver anyway? Every event that we have here hockey games, fireworks, Pride Parade everyone is yahooing and yelling until three oclock in the morning. Theyre all drunk or stoned and carrying on like idiots. Doesnt matter what age, 20 or 50, they all seem to act the same. Why dont these people go out and travel the world and get a bit of education and class and act in a decent manner. Its almost embarrassing to go out and walk on the streets and see these people. I went out last night and theres a gang of kids all in their 20s puking in Nelson Park and its 6:30 in the evening and theyre heading down to the fireworks. Its disgusting.

Get off the sidewalks
If bikers are tired of reading about bikes on sidewalks in the rant and rave section then maybe they should just get the heck off the sidewalks or maybe the police should start enforcing. Last weekend we were walking in Yaletown and four middle-aged men, adults, riding on the sidewalk causing everyone else to step off onto the road. How safe is it for pedestrians to be walking on the road when thats where the bikes should be. If bikes want to stop seeing themselves in the rant column than get the hell of the sidewalks or lets get some police enforcement.

Bring ID, lose the tude
Im a doorman at one of the local clubs in town and what Im really getting tired of is people getting upset when they get carded. Just so you guys know, according to the law you have to be able to prove your age. If youre going into a licensed establishment, be prepared to show an ID because they may ask for an ID if you look under 30 years old. So lose the attitude, bring your ID and have a good time.
