What a bunch of crap
This is in response to Trayeas rant on seeing all the doggie poo in Vancouver and mostly in the West End. I own a dog and a pet boutique and not a day goes by that we dont sell doggie poo pickup bags by the crateload, so somebody is indeed looking after their wee pooch and the city, as well as being eco-minded by getting biodegradeable bags. We also dont go more than a day where some lovely tourist to our fair city comments on three things: one is that there are a lot of dogs here in Vancouver, both small and large; two is that the dogs all seem to be well behaved; and three is: Where is all the poop!? Now they may be comparing to their own city and that may not be fair, as where they live they may not have bylaws that outline an owners responsibility on cleanup duties, but more to the fact is that we do a great job of picking those tootsie rolls off the grass! With the sheer amount of dogs here and truthfully the little amount of mess there truly is, Vancouverites are earnest in being tidy. Perhaps it is true that you see the same mess or maybe it is someone in your block? Seeing the same mess time and again will make it seem like everyone is sloppy but I assure you that if we are all ignorant fucking pigs as you stated there would be nowhere to walk without steppin in it! So maybe dog owners do not have a bad name after all? In fact, I hear just the opposite. Maybe you hear different and so I personally apologize for that. Cheers babe and all the best to you!

Rescued Me
In the early hours of the evening on Jan. 30, I was en route to a restaurant on Denman when I was overcome with dizziness. I collapsed on the street. I regained consciousness in St. Pauls emergency room a short while later. I have no idea of how I got there. My efforts to gain any information on how I got there proved futile. The authorities are very reticent to give out information. I am taking this opportunity to express my thanks, gratitude and appreciation to my Good Samaritans. Thank you. May you enjoy the best of everything always.

To earn respect, youve got to give respect
In response to International Incident (WE, Feb. 17). Obviously you do not travel much. I go through the border every week (no Nexus). Myself and my husband are covered with tattoos and piercings that no jacket can cover. We have yet to be searched, proving a majority of these searches are indeed random. We are always treated with respect and even make the border guards laugh. We are asked the exact same questions and guess what? So is everyone else! Hence the long lineups! They are doing their job asking everyone normal looking or not the same things. Stephanie, travel a bit more and you will realize when you treat people with respect 99, per cent of the time you get it back. From my experience its what comes out of your mouth that sets you apart not some lame tattoo or piercing that any sheep can purchase. You have just been schooled.

Hospitals, heath care should be the priority
Im tired of politicians bringing up the condition of St. Pauls Hospital for their own agenda. In 1983, St. Pauls Hospital opened up a new wing which was to be the first of four phases of a new hospital on the site. This can be seen on a website called the St. Pauls legacy. Well, everything was soon put on hold with the explanation from then-premier Bill Bennett that there were no funds for such a project but he was able to find money for Expo 86. Then when premier Bill Vander Zalm got in he did release money to upgrade the emergency department at St. Pauls, but still there were no funds for any more of the phases to be started. Then we had the NDP and it was just more of the same. Now we have the Liberals and theyve been skirting the issue for years. When will they all stop making excuses and do what they know is the right thing to do, especially after spending so much money on the Olympics. I suppose that health care and the state of our hospitals are not a priority. Now the provincial government should be sitting more in the legislature than they have been and getting to work on the problems that we have in this province, rather than making excuses why we cant have what we need.

Noise discrimination
Weighing in on the issue of noisy neighbours, I would like to opine that noise bylaws, and people who have the luxury of having day jobs, tend to discriminate against those who work graveyards. Vancouver is a 24-hour city, and every shift has its own noise issues to put up with, but those who work graveyards really have it tough. Traffic noise, elevators going up and down, lawnmowers, snow-shovellers, construction work, and the worst sunlight peeping in through the slats of the blinds. They have more cause to complain than most, I feel. I hope I myself never have to work another graveyard job in my life, because I know how hard it is. My thought is that everyone could use a little respect and forbearance toward their neighbour, because we all must depend upon each other for our economy to thrive.
