Raw Meat Vancouver is for roller derby and roller skate enthusiasts of all abilities. Lessons get cooked up from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday nights on the East Side at the Thunderbird Community Centre (2311 Cassiar St.). The non-contact derby drills are suitable for women brand new to the sport and those who have been around a thousand times, too. To participate, you need roller skates (not roller blades), a helmet, wrist, knee and elbow pads, and a mouth guard. All safety gear is mandatory. The venue also requires white or light toe stops as well as white, non-marking tape on top of black knee pads. There are two rules: 1. Be safe. 2. Don't be an ass-hat. There is zero tolerance for breaking either rule, and they may ask you to leave otherwise. Cost is $5. For more information, visit rawmeatvancouver.com.
