The NPA-dominated Vancouver Park Board elected four commissioners to executive positions on Monday, keeping its hold on the civic organization.

NPA commissioner Sarah Kirby-Yung was elected chairwoman of the Vancouver Park Board on Dec. 14 and moves from vice-chairwoman to replace out-going chairman John Coupar.

As it does each year, the park board elects a new chairperson in December to serve a one-year term. Kirby-Yung, a first-time NPA commissioner, was elected along with fellow NPA commissioner Erin Shum who will serve as the vice-chairwoman on the park board.

Coupar and Casey Crawford, both NPA commissioners, were elected vice-chairman and chairman, respectively, of the Park Board Committee, which is part of the regular functioning of the park board.

The seven-member park board is comprised of four NPA commissioners, two Green Party commissioners and one Vision commissioner.

Kirby-Yung served as the park board vice-chairwoman for the previous year and before that was a marketing director with Tourism Vancouver.

“This board has set a renewed, positive tone and focused on improving maintenance in our parks, “Kirby-Yung said in a statement. “Moving forward, our priorities include strengthening relationships with community centres and increased community engagement. We’re also passionate about bringing fun to Vancouver’s parks and recreation services, prioritizing service delivery and resource management, and being strong advocates for green space for all Vancouverites.”

The next park board meeting will be scheduled for January.
