Kamloops RCMP will have a boat and a helicopter searching the South Thompson River today (Aug. 1) as the search for a missing boater continues.

The police dive team wrapped up operations yesterday, according to Cpl. Jodi Shelkie, but Air 4, the RCMP helicopter, and a police boat are currently out.

"They're patrolling between where he was last seen and down river from that," she says.

How long the search will take is unclear, says Shelkie.

"It's not uncommon if somebody has drowned in the river, for it to take an amount of time to locate their body."

Unlike the last few days, which saw police close the stretch of water between the Lafarge Bridge and the Valleyview boat launch, to allow divers to do their work, police are not doing the same today.
