The Vancouver Police Department has charged a man with second-degree murder of the Japanese student whose body was found at a Davie Street mansion last September.

William Schneider, 49, has been in custody since he was charged with indignity to a human body the day that Natsumi Kogawa was found dead on the property near Nicola Street. Crown Counsel has now laid an addition charge of second-degree murder.

Police say that shortly before 7 p.m. on September 28, 2016, police discovered the deceased body of Ms. Kogawa on the property of the Davie Street mansion near Nicola Street. She had been reported missing on September 12, 2016.

Schneider was arrested by the RCMP in Vernon, B.C., on the same day that Ms. Kogawa’s body was located.

As the case is currently before the courts, police say there is no further information to share at this time.
