Vancouver drivers beware. The stretch of 12th Avenue between Kingsway and Fraser Street will be closed for the rest of the summer as the city works to replace the aging water main.

The closure went into effect July 2 and is expected to remain in place until Labour Day.

The existing water main was installed in the early 1900s and is considered to be in “critical condition” following a recent series of leaks.

On the project webpage, the city said it will provide advance notice to residents if the work will result in any disruption to water supply.

“During construction, you may occasionally notice cloudy water — this is not a health concern and will usually resolve within a few hours,” the website states.
