In Vancouver, we really cant complain about how cold winter is. But we can join our fellow Canadians in bemoaning how early night falls, especially as we approach the shortest day of the year. If theres a time of year when we need a little razzle dazzle in our lives, its December.
The West End BIA and Robson Street BIA are joining forces to brighten up our holiday season. Every Saturday from November 23 to December 21, theyre inviting you to hop on a free trolley car to Shine, Shop and Dine.
Its a way to easily navigate the West End but also to enjoy the various light displays including St. Pauls Lights of Hope, Robson Streets decorative lights, Beach Avenues Lights for Life and, its hoped, a new lighting display at the Laughing Men sculptures.
We want to give people a magical holiday experience, says Stephen Regan, executive director of the West End BIA. His Robson Street counterpart Teri Smith adds, People can experience the great shopping and dining there is amidst a beautiful backdrop of twinkling lights. A few other surprises will be sure to get everyone into the spirit of the season.
The trolley will stop at the following locations once every 10 minutes from 4:30 to 9:30pm: St. Pauls Hospital and Sutton Place on Burrard; Davie Village Community Garden, Bute Plaza and Best Western Sands on Davie; Denman Place Mall and West End Community Centre on Denman; and Robson Market, Empire Landmark, Modern Art Gallery, CinCin and Urban Pasture on Robson.
Although the trolley is free, people are invited to make a donation to St. Pauls Lights of Hope.
