Attempted murder charges have been laid against a 35-year-old arrested in Burnaby for shooting a Transit Police officer in Surrey last month.

Daon Glasgow was taken into custody during what police described as a “high-risk” arrest at a fourplex in the 7500 block of Boundary Road at about 5:30 a.m. on Feb. 3.

His arrest ended an intense, four-day manhunt after Transit Police Const. Josh Harms was shot by a man on the Scott Road SkyTrain station on the afternoon of Jan. 30.

Glasgow has now been charged with attempted murder using a restricted or prohibited firearm, discharging a restricted or prohibited firearm with the intent to endanger life, intentionally discharging a firearm while being reckless to the life and safety of other persons and unlawfully possessing a loaded restricted or prohibited firearm.

Glasgow was unlawfully at large at the time of the shooting, according to police.

“With these charges now being laid, I am pleased to see this matter now before the courts where the administration of justice can begin,” Surrey RCMP Assistant Commissioner Dwayne McDonald stated in a news release. “Thank you to the hard work and dedication of our investigative team, assisted by numerous officers and staff within the detachment as well as other police agencies across the Lower Mainland.”

Harms was taken to hospital but has since been released and is expected to recover.

Surrey RCMP is continuing its investigation. Anyone with information who has not yet spoken with police is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca.
